You first need to understand that anything that you get for cheap is actually by a dealer who has purchased the parts in bulk. Purchasing a cheap printer isn’t wrong, but you need to research about what you need, it’s other characteristics, price, etc.

I bought a Kossel 2020 from Folgertech. The reason why I chose this printer was because of the price as well as my desire to develop it into something large so that it prints clay structures. But before using it, I needed to have a deep understanding of the delta style printers. When I had purchased it I got a huge rebate on it, also they frequently have on-going discounts on printers.

The printer makes use of a standard nema17 steppers and even after using it for last 5 years, there is no need to replace it. The hardware and software are open source, based on arduino. I replaced it with a 32-bit open source smoothieboard- making use of lots of stepper drivers, endstops and some metal frame components and pre-printed parts.

I have frequently updated, modified and added to this printer. The printer is cased in a Jeep Suspension delivery kit to shield it and its components against wind. I am still working on the prototype of the large printer I wanted to build, let’s see when that happens.
